Success comes in many forms

Success …

It seems like such a simple concept. Spelling it can be tricky; exactly how many c’s and s’s are there?

Success means different things to different people.

So often it is rated in terms of $$$. What you earn. What you own. What you spend. More, more, more is what we all ultimately strive for in terms of success – or is it?

I have always considered myself to be unsuccessful because when I rate myself against the usual measures of success I am at the very bottom of the continuum – the $$$ continuum that is.

There is an advertisement currently running on New Zealand television which reinforces the view that success is so much more. Every time I see this advert it makes me stop and smile. It reminds me of the many successes I have had throughout my life and those that continue to happen on a daily basis. It is so easy to forget these, especially when times are hard. Sometimes just getting through the next 15 minutes or the next hour is a major success all on its own. I know this feeling only too well.

Take a minute to look at this advertisement; it is a great example of a simple digital story. I love its message.

So let’s get started.

AMP financial security through life.

Stop and reflect on your own life. Think about what success means to you. Don’t limit yourself by focusing on the big things. They are important but they also seem to demand way too much of our attention.

Take a moment to focus on all the little successes you have had – either in the past or today. These are the every day things that make life worth living. To be able to make choices. To be able to motivate and inspire others. To share life (both the joys and the sorrows) with others. To feel and to show feeling. To love and to be loved. To make the most of every situation no matter the circumstances. To live with passion and energy. To be kind and to care. To be able to be your true self. To laugh, and to laugh often. To be healthy in mind, body and spirit. To choose a path that may have been difficult or risky and to be able to look back and be glad you did it. To be aware of everything around you. The list is endless. In my opinion these are much more important measures of success.

Very often we don’t see our successes until we take the time to look at where we started and compare that to where we are now. Give it a try!

    Hi Marica

Thank you for introducing me to the world of blogging. Meandering through your blog and the links you have created, is like entering a maze – a maze of information that has no end.

I like your thoughts on success. I measure my success in life by my personal growth. Your list of little successes seems to be a reflection of that growth. It is a much more valuable measure than $$$

    see you tomorrow

    What have you started Marica?

I happened across this quote while meandering down the information maze.

“You’ve achieved success in your field when you don’t know whether what you’re doing is work or play.”

    Warren Beatty

    Now wouldn’t that be nice?!

By the way I have been on here all morning and some of the afternoon. My bum has gone numb.

I hope you get your ‘puter up and running today.
