Sione’s Wedding

Sione's WeddingSione’s Wedding

Sione’s Wedding is a New Zealand comedy. It tells the story of four best friends. They are all first generation Samoan New Zealanders who live in the world’s largest Polynesian city – Auckland, New Zealand.

As a first generation Croatian New Zealander there was a weird kind of connectedness for me as I watched this movie. Can you imagine what it must be like being brought up in one culture and at the same time trying to make a place for yourself within another? Then there are all the normal everyday challenges related to growing up, being responsible, and trying to make a life for oneself. This movie explores some of these issues.

The storyline in Sione’s Wedding is uncomplicated. You therefore have an opportunity to get to know the characters as a group and as individuals. Being a first generation anything can be hard work at the best of times. Sione’s Wedding does a wonderful job of portraying this experience in a creative and engaging way. This movie is full of humour and reality. I loved it.
