Day 28: Let your light shine

Let your light shine

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most.
We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?’
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won’t feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us; it’s in all of us.
And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
Nelson Mandela in his 1994 inaugural speech

I was walking up the path to our front door. I had to pass under this overhanging fern. As I looked up I saw the sun’s light shining through the fern fronds. It was so dazzling and inviting. I loved the effect this light had on the different fronds. Some really sparkled as the light reflected off them. The more light there was on a frond the brighter its colour.

I started to think about whether I am letting my light shine or have I dimmed it?

Oh, I so love this speech by Mandela! It’s up there as one of my favs along with Martin Luther King Jnr’s book of speeches titled I Have a Dream.

Thanks for reminding me of these wonderful words Marica, it’s a lovely way to enter the weekend! 🙂

    Love, Marg

How wonderful to hear from you Marg. It would seem the same things speak to both of us. Why am I not surprised at that?

I hope all is well with you in your part of the world. I’d love to have a catch up some time soon.

    Make the weekend count!

    Love Marica
